The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill several vacancies within the Oakland Public Works Department.
Tree Worker: Under immediate supervision in the Oakland Public Works Department, performs a variety of tree maintenance duties in the Parks and Trees Division including loading tree debris, cutting roots, and operating tree cutting machines; drives and operates work trucks and other specialized equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.
Tree Trimmer: Under general supervision in the Oakland Public Works Department, the Tree Trimmer performs a variety of tree maintenance duties which involve climbing trees up to a height of fifty-five feet and working from a variety of lifts; corrects hazardous conditions caused by trees on City property, public rights-of-way, and easements; may provide technical direction to Tree Worker/Drivers and other assigned personnel; and performs related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player, with exceptional communication skills, capable of following oral and written directions to complete assignments, is eager to learn a variety of tree maintenance tasks and has the interest in long-term professional development. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a solid work ethic, including a strong commitment to maintaining the City's urban forest.
Tree Trimmer Crew Leader: Under general supervision in the Oakland Public Works Department, the Tree Trimmer Crew Leader uses a full range of technical skills to serve as a mobile crew leader performing a variety of tree maintenance duties, which involve climbing trees up to fifty-five feet and working from a variety of lifts; correcting hazardous conditions caused by trees on City property, public rights-of-way, and easements; providing technical direction to Tree Trimmers, Tree Workers, Park Attendants, and volunteers; and performing related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player, with exceptional communication skills, capable of following oral and written directions to complete assignments, is eager to learn a variety of tree maintenance tasks and has the interest in long-term professional development. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a solid work ethic, including a strong commitment to maintaining the City's urban forest.
Arboricultural Inspector: The incumbent, under general supervision, performs work involving the inspection and evaluation of trees for maintenance, planting and/or removal; investigates and resolves tree maintenance service requests from the public, City departments, or outside agencies; makes field inspections for hazardous tree reports; assists in daily and weekly scheduling of work units; helps select and train tree maintenance personnel; and performs related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with urban forestry, able to diagnose tree problems and make recommendations, and demonstrates the ability to write reports. This individual is computer savvy, has exceptional oral and interpersonal communication skills, is able to make presentations in public settings, and has a proactive approach toward conflict resolutions.
