Please visit the Membership page of our website to view the most current information on PAPA membership benefits.
Regardless of the date your membership is purchased, the following information applies:
Please click here to read DPR's Continuing Education Hours Required for License and Certificate Holders.
Law hours minimums must be met. Excess law hours can be applied to your total number of hours. If you are renewing for the first time, you may not need the full hours requirement. Please click here for more information.
Please go to DPR's website for more information: www.cdpr.ca.gov.
DPR licensees need to complete their hours within their 2-year licensing period, but are not restricted as to how many hours are earned per year. (Example: You can get 10 hours each year, 14 hours in one year and 6 the next, 20 hours all in one year, etc.) You may only earn hours between the issue date and expiration dates that are printed on your DPR certificate/license card.
You must complete the required hours by December 31 of your expiration year. You can renew your certificate/license for up to one year after it expires, but you will be subject to a late fee after December 31 of your expiration year.
You may only earn hours between the issue date and expiration dates that are printed on your DPR certificate/license card.
There is no grace period for completing the required amount of CE hours. If you do not obtain the required CE before your certificate/license expires, you are not eligible to renew and must retest as a new applicant.
As of 2024, all CE course sponsors are required to report their attendance to DPR. PAPA is in compliance with this new requirement. DPR is now tracking hours for all certificate/license holders.
New in 2025: You no longer have to submit a summary of your hours or any other proof of attendance to DPR, if you check your hours on DPR's website and they show a record of all of your attendance.
You can check your hours on DPR's website, just click here and follow the instructions below.
Please see this DPR notice for what to do if the DPR website shows less than the full amount of hours required to renew your certificate/license (option 2): https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/CADPR/bulletins/3e7ef2d
Remember — excess law hours still count toward your total! Please click here for details on hours requirements for advisers and applicators.
If your last name begins with A-L, you will typically renew on even-numbered years.
If your last name begins with M-Z, you will typically renew on odd-numbered years.
An expiration date is printed on your certificate/license card. The year of the expiration date is the year in which you will submit your renewal.
DPR sends out renewal applications each summer for the current renewal period. If you do not receive your renewal application please contact DPR's Licensing Department at 916-445-4038 or licensemail@cdpr.ca.gov.
You can also download the DPR renewal application here.
